Royal Ascot is synonymous with all the great sporting and social events of the British summer. Tradition, pageantry, fashion and style all meet in a glorious setting at one of the most beautiful racecourses in the country. The quality of the horseracing at Royal Ascot is simply outstanding, with over £3.5 million in prize money on offer and a total of seventeen "Group" races over the five days. Royal Ascot runs more group races than any other race meeting in the UK, including 6 Group Ones, the elite level of races, during the five days.
The tradition is upheld by her Majesty The Queen as she usually starts each raceday by entering the racecourse in horse-drawn landaus at the Golden Gates. The procession proceeds up the Straight Mile, passing the Silver Ring, Heath and General Admission and Royal Enclosure areas, finally turning under the stand and into the Parade Ring before the Royal Party alight in to display her stylish and sophisticated outfit to the expectant crowd. Each day is rounded off with the singing of all the old favourites around the new bandstand.
This year we are proud to say that the Gold Cup is celebrating its 200th Anniversary; it is still the feature race of the third day of Royal Ascot which is traditionally the centre piece of the five day meeting and the busiest day of the week.
