In 2008 the Royal Birkdale Golf Club will host the 9th championship to be played over the Lancashire course, where Arnold Palmer's victory in 1961 marked the virtual re-birth of golf's oldest championship.

Mark O' Meara was the last Open Champion at Royal Birkdale in 1998.  This challenging links golf course has been voted the No 1 course in Britain and has held two Ryder Cups, the Walker Cup and the Curtis Cup.
